About this project

An original browser shop sim about a lock-up on a lower level, made because the loop of inspect-haggle-decide is fun to build.

What this is

Probably Stolen is an unofficial, non-commercial fan-made browser game inspired by the genre of Probably Stolen. It is not the official game, it is not endorsed by anyone, and it contains no official assets. The name, characters, factions, items, events and rules are original to this project.

This remake has five ways for a run to end: the buyout win, eviction, blacklisting, being overwritten, and recall. Four of them punish a different neglected system — cash, Standing, the Aug decision, and the tenancy clock. We do not claim to reproduce the official game’s ending list.

What is original here

All of it: the TypeScript engine, the CSS art, the synthesized sound, the item table, the customer archetypes, the five factions, the events, the economy, the writing, and all five language catalogs. No screenshots, logos, key art, music, sound effects, store text, or character art from the official game are used anywhere on this site. The genre is shared; the work is ours.

Inspired by the genre; all code, art, audio and text are original to this project.

The game that inspired it

Probably Stolen is developed by Questing Goose Studio and published by tinyBuild. The 1.0.0.2 build released on Steam on 28 October 2026 at $19.99, with a 10% launch discount running to 11 November 2026. This project does not distribute, mirror, or link to any copy of it. If the premise interests you, buy the real thing — it is a much larger game.

The developer of the official game has said it draws on Space Station 13 and “a bit of” Papers, Please. This remake borrows genre grammar from that lineage, not its content.

How it is built

Astro generates a static site, one page set per language. The game is a single TypeScript module that renders into the page with plain DOM and CSS, and keeps its state in a small store. Sound is synthesized with WebAudio; there are no audio files. Saves are versioned JSON in localStorage, with migrations. There is no server, no analytics, and no third-party request at runtime.
